Deck Repairs for settling masonry.
This deck, while well built had been sitting without maintenance for 18 years.  The masonry had settled significantly over that time and it had become quite dangerous, REALLY too dangerous to be walking around on in your 70s after getting three stents put in!
Getting started you can see the bricks having settled near the edge of the lawn.
After I got a few tools moved onto the deck someone stepped on the edge and it just began falling apart. We started dissembling after that.
Prying out some of the bricks and checking the soil consistency. There was no underlying problem, just settling over time.
After the initial gravel had been cemented in, I check the levels before filling the masonry.
Checking the bricks after having been filled. Nice and straight, no more leaning.
These are two pillars made of concrete that held up nice bench. You can see the masonry buckling towards the pillars.
After removing the pillars you can see how much setting has occurred.
Pulled out all the surrounding bricks. Laid in the gravel, set in the cementing sand, and replaced the bricks. Boom, all fixed.
